So its officially British summer time. The weather may not be cooperating but hopefully it will soon. So I thought I'd share with you some of my beauty essentials.
Base...
It's no secret I love dewy, fresh looking skin. But in the summer I tone it down a bit just so I don't end up looking like a sweaty mess!
MAC Strobe cream | £32
This multi tasking cream is an instant quick fix for dull tired looking skin. It can be used as primer, moisturiser, mixed with foundation or as a highlighter. I really like this as a primer. The White iridescent cream smoothes over the skin helping with any dry patches, and leaves an illuminated base that gives most foundations a beautiful glow.
Esstee Lauder Double Wear Light | £30
This is such a great foundation for summer. Its really lightweight, whilst offering a medium buildable coverage. As the name suggests this really does stay flawless looking all day. And its virtually melt proof, making a perfect base for hot days. It also has SPF 30 which is also a plus.
Urban Decay One & Done | £25 POST
Another foundation that would be good at withstanding the heat is this little beauty! It's a hybrid foundation and skin care product all in one. The coverage is pretty good considering it's described as being light coverage. Again this stays put all day!
Theres nothing worse then spending hours in the sun trying to achieve the perfect natural tan, then none of your foundations match your body. Don't worry the Body Shop has you back! This product is a liquid bronzer that you can mix with foundations to make them darker. This really works well - it doesn't alter the formula of the foundation at all! It can also be used under foundation or alone to give a sun kissed look.
Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder | £15* POST
On a day to basis I use my Hourglass powders but when I really want my makeup to withstand the heat and last all day, I reach for this. Its a loose powder, which is a bit more effort to apply but the extra effort is well worth it if I want my base to stay in place. It doesn't leave a White cast either, it just sets makeup brilliantly.
Maybelline Super Stay 24Hr Setting Spray | £6.99
Setting spray is a must for summer. This is my favourite setting spray by far. I actually prefer it over Urban decay (see battle of the setting sprays for more details). This does need a shake before using and spray it at arms length to prevent any White spots.
Mario Badescu Facial spray with aloe and herbs | £10.95
There isn't a better time for facial spray than the summer. This makes a great facial toner, it can also be used as a setting spray or just refreshing spritz - which is how I like to use it. Its really cooling and makes a great makeup refresher and helps to stop it drying it out in the sun.
Cheeks...
Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face Collection | £48
Expect to see lots of this palette in coming posts, I'm completely smitten with it! I have a full review of it here. It contains 3 gorgeous blushes that are perfect for the warmer months, they stay all day and look stunning on the cheeks. And 2 highlighters to achieve the ultimate glow. My favourite is Champagne Pop. Which is the most perfect buttery soft, Champagne toned highlight.
L'Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soliel | £14.99
I've been really enjoying this lately and its perfect for summer. Its a cushion compact, liquid bronzer. Similar to the CC Cushion Foundation (read about that here). It's really easy to apply, I like to use a stippling brush to apply to all the places the sun would naturally hit. The bronzer actually dries really matte and isn't sticky or foundation like at all. The staying power is really good to! A perfect summer bronzer.
I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts Bronzer | £4.99
I love a multi task product. And this is a highlight and bronzer in one. It has Red undertones so it really gives a natural look. The shimmer also makes the skin look really healthy and glow-y but nothing over the top. It applies smoothly, no dreaded patchy-ness and lasts all day.
Eyes...
Maybelline 24hr color tattoos | £4.99
These could potentially last 24hrs. I've not actually tried this but these do not budge! They're also really easy to just swipe on and they come in a range of shades. My favourites are:
- On and On Bronze - Which is a lovely Bronze colour. Perfect for any makeup look
- Creme de Nude - A creamy nude with Yellow undertones. I love this as an eyeshadow base.
- Metallic Pomegranate - This is a stunning Pomegranate Red with rusty metallic sheen.
- Pink Gold - a beautiful metallic Pink that glistens Gold. This is a perfect summer shade.
Morphe 12s Summer Soul Palette | £11.95
This palette as the name suggests is perfect for summer. With a range of warm tones, Coppers and a deep Burgundy. All the shades just scream summer to me! All the shadows are soft, pigmented and last all day. The only downside is there isn't mattes. But it's still a great palette! See this post for swatches.
Lips...
During the warmer months I'm all about a low maintenance lip...
NYX Butter Glosses | £5
I love these butter glosses regardless of the time of year but they finish off any summer look so well. My favourites are Madeline and Angle Food Cake. Angle Food Cake is more of a Mauve-y nude and Madeleine is a beautiful nude colour. These look stunning on there own or over the top of lipsticks. The smell is good enough to eat and they aren't sticky at all.
L'Oreal Sexy Balm | £5.99
This is a tinted balm like lipstick that has a subtle seen. The shade As If is a perfect throw on and go shade. Its a muted Coral. This isn't sticky and its super low maintenance. No mirror required. But still has enough pigment to pull any look together.
Until Next time...
