Drugstore Starter Kit (Or just amazing drugstore products)

The aisles of Boots and Superdrug (the Two biggest 'drugstores' here in the Uk) are my favourite places. I love trying to hunt down amazing products at an amazing price. It's safe to say I've tried my fair share of drugstore products. So today I wanted to share my drugstore starter kit - The products that if I had to start my collection again they would serve me well. And that are perfect for beginners or those just or wanting to get into makeup. I've also just kept this strictly to stuff available in the drugstore, and not stuff that is still affordable but can't be brought in the drugstore (which actually made it really hard!).

Rimmel #Instaflawless Primer | £6.99 | POST

Although primer isn't probably a necessity when just starting out in makeup, it makes such a huge difference in my makeup application and wear time. This Rimmel one leaves the perfect base for makeup. It leaves a lovely glow to the skin, adds a tiny bit of coverage and leaves my skin smoother. If you have really good skin you could probably get away with just this!

NYX HD Concealer wand | £5.50 | POST

For concealer this offering from NYX is perfect for a starter kit. It works well on blemishes and under the eyes. It has a nice light texture that's easy to blend but still has good coverage at the same time. This is also a good dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (see dupes / affordable alternatives for more details).

Maybelline Fit Foundation Smooth and Dewy | £7.99 | POST
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Matte + Poreless | £5.99 | POST

There are so many different bases in the drugstore, it can be a daunting task picking which one to go for. So I picked Two. The Maybelline Smooth and Dewy which is a great 'glowy' foundation. The formula is so nice; it gives medium coverage, blends with ease and lasts so well on the skin. This a brilliant foundation for those who have normal or dry skin. I have the old packaging but the packaging has the same formula.

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless is another great option. It is a matte foundation but it's not drying or cakey at all! It offers a good medium to full coverage and lasts all day! This a great all round foundation. Both the foundations from the Fit Me line also have a pretty good shade range.

Bourjois Health Balance Compact Powder | £8.99

For my dehydrated skin powder isn't essential. And finding one in the drugstore that isn't too drying or cakey looking  I've found to be a struggle. But not this one from Bourjois. It's perfect for setting everything down and removing excess oil. It's so finely milled, it just melts into the skin without leaving a powdery trace behind.

Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer | £7.99

This was a tough category! I feel like drugstore bronzers can be very hit and miss. And it can be difficult to find one that suits your skin tone. But the Boujois Chocolate Bronzer is brilliant. It's finely milled and applies evenly and wears well. It comes in two shades. I have the darker shade which is warm but not too warm!

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush | £8.99

Every makeup collection needs a good Pink blush. And this Max Factor one in the shade Lovely Pink is great. It gives the cheeks a healthy flush with a subtle glow. It applies so smoothly, and lasts all day.

Sleek  Highlighter Eye Palette Solstice | £9.99

Again, I'm not convinced a highlighter is a starter kit essential, but it really transforms the complexion, and if applied in the right places - pretty fool proof. As drugstore highlighters go, I'm yet to find a better one than this. It contains 3 powder formulas and one cream formula. I can take or leave the cream one. But the powders are incredible. All 3 are buttery soft, give an amazing glow, all without glitter! See my full  with swatches review here.

Makeup Revolution Neutrals vs New-trals palette | £6.99

If affordable, super pigmented, blendable eye shadows are what you're after look no further than Makeup Revolution. And this pallete in particular is incredible! The top row has some brilliant warm tones and the bottom row has more neutral shades. This palette is so versatile and it can create almost any eye look. It also has some similar shades as the Anastasia Beverly Hill Modern Renaissance Palette (See this post for more details and swatches).

Soap and Glory Supercat Liner | £6.99

This liquid liner would be awesome for beginners. The tip is really fine and precise making drawing a wing really easy. It doesn't flake, smudge or move throughout the day either.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £7.99 | POST

I'm not really sure what I can say about that this mascara that I already haven't! It's just the best mascara ever! It gives really good length and volume, without a clump in sight! It also holds the curl all day and doesn't smudge or flake.

Rimmel Brow Pencil | £2.99 | POST

This was my favourite brow pencil for such a long time! The shade Hazel is a perfect match for my hair. It's also really easy to draw  the brows and still keep them natural looking. It also lasts all day on me!

NYX Butter Gloss | £5 | POST

For a good gloss, the NYX butter glosses are second to none. They are so buttery and give the lips a really nice plump look. They don't stick either. And come in so many shades to suit everyone! The shade featured above is Tiramisu, which is a lovely browny nude colour. See this post for more of my favourite shades.

NYX Matte Lipstick | £6.50

Another lip product from NYX but they really do have the lip formula down! The matte line is amazing. They are super creamy, comfortable and long lasting. There's nothing not to love. The shade Euro Trash  is in the middle of being not quite a nude but not quite being a colour. It's a great shade that can be worn either day or night.

Real Techniques Brushes

Real Techniques easily do the best brushes in the drugstore. In fact the Buffing Brush (part of the Core collection) Is my all time favourite for applying foundation! The Contour brush, which is also part of the core collection, is brilliant for blending out concealer. All their brushes are incredible quality and amazing value for money!

So there's some makeup starter kit inspiration. Or just some great drugstore products, if you already have a good makeup collection!

Have you tried any of these? What are thoughts?

Until next time...
