Today we're talking about a few things I've picked up in the drugstore again. I managed to pick up quite a bit of makeup from the drugstore throughout August. Some of which was a bit hit and miss. I've included a couple of the items I wasn't a huge fan of, just because I actually find it really helpful to find out why someone doesn't like something rather than why they love it! So lets get into it...
NYX HD Photo Finish, Translucent Finishing Powder | £8
Having dehydrated skin, powders are a real struggle. Most are far too dry and cakey looking on my skin. So I decided to try this NYX offering. I love the NYX HD line so I had high hopes. Unfortunately this didn't live up to those hopes. First thing I dislike is the packaging. It's a loose powder which are always a bit of pain, but this is just so difficult to use. The sifter holes that let the powder out are far too big and let far too much powder out so it's really difficult to get a small amount on the brush. Once I'd managed to apply it, it did give me a flawless finish and wasn't overly drying. It's a Translucent powder But It left a white cast on my face and me look a bit ghostly. So I can't recommend this, unless you are very pale!
I heart Makeup I Heart Naked Chocolate palette | £7.99
I have no idea why it's taken me so long to buy this. All the shades are right up my street. But I finally got round to it and I'm so impressed with it! It's been a while since I've used such an 'affordable' eyeshadow palette, so I was surprised at how good the formula of the shadows are! All of which are really soft, well pigmented, easy to work and apply really smoothly! It has a good mix of matte and shimmers, most of which are warmed toned but there are a few cooler, more Taupey shades in there. I have swatched it below but it doesn't have the shade names written on the palette - the only bad thing I can say about it!
Seventeen Brows that Brow Kit* | £5.99
I'm not normally fussed by kits. I rarely have time to apply more than one product and even when I do I'm normally not that bothered by the whole thing. But I actually really like this little kit. It contains a wax-y formula, a powder formula and a pencil. I really like the wax one, it applies well and looks natural. The powder is well pigmented, and lasts well. The highlight shade is a bit too Pink for me, but would be great for paler skin tones. Overall, not a bad little kit!
NYX Baked Blush | £5.99
I really like the the NYX HD blushes and really like baked formulas in general so decided it was about time I owned an NYX Baked Blush! I have the shade Ignite, which is a nice Orange shade with subtle shimmers running through it. Although I'm not overly impressed by it. It's not as soft as other baked formulas I've tried and it's not very pigmented. I even found it hard to swatch. I really had to build it up to get some colour pay off on the cheeks. I'd say this is probably good for those who like a very subtle blush or who have heavy hand!
Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Blush | £2.50
Can you tell I'm having a Baked Blush moment! But like the NYX one I'm not too happy with this one. The shade One For Play looks so pretty in the pan. A nice Purple-y Berry tone, I thought it would be ideal for Autumn. But it translates to a frosted pale Purple that is really shimmery. It's more like a highlighter! And I'm not sure I can make a frosted Purple highlighter work! The formula is actually really nice, it's really soft and well pigmented. So I'm going to try some other shades.
I Heart Makeup Lip Lava | £2.99
First things first; why is the shade name not written on the packaging! I can't seem to find it anywhere. But that aside the product is really good! It's a melted lipstick with a satin finish. The shade Forgiven is a lovely Brown nude with Pink undertones. I really like this shade. The formula isn't overly long lasting but it's really comfortable on the lips.
L'Oreal Mega Gloss | £7.99
Where do I start with the lip gloss? I love it! The shade Disco Ball is a light Gold-y colour, with an almost metallic finish. I like to use it as a lip topper over liquid lipsticks. And it gives a really high shine finish! The formula isn't sticky or too slippery, it's just really nice! I highly recommend this!
So there is a few bits I've discovered recently. Have you tried any of these? What have you been buying lately?
Until next time...
