Caring for Dehydrated, Dull Skin This Winter

The colder weather and central heating really takes a toll on my skin. Dryness and dehydration become more of an issue and my skin ends up looking dull and lack luster. And I'm sure I'm not the only 1. But this year I plan to stay head of the winter and I've been taking preventative measures to stop this before it happens. So today I bring my top picks that I've added to my skincare routine...

Cleanser...

In the autumn / winter I like to switch my cleanser for cream, something that feels more nourishing on the skin. Rather than something light and refreshing...

At the beginning of the month I was kindly invited down to the Aurelia Pop Up shop. Where I was kindly gifted this cleanser. I hadn't really heard of the brand before. But this cleanser is amazing. It has Probiotic technology. I'm not too sure what that is, but it's packed full of natural ingredients that melt away makeup and lift away impurities. This is probably one of the only cleansers I've tried that actually feels like it's nourishing my skin. Since using this, I haven't had any breakouts and my skin just looks a lot more healthy and nourished. I only have the sample size, But I will definitely be picking a larger one.

Key ingredients: Water, Coconut oil, Glycerin, Shea Butter

La Roche Posay Toleriane Cleanser | £11 | POST

This is a more affordable alternative to the Aurelia cleanser. It's a rich cream aimed at more sensitive skin to cleanse and nourish the skin without being stripping or irritating. Which this does! While it isn't as nourishing on the skin as the Aurelia one, it does a good job at removing makeup without leaving the skin dry or tight.

Key Ingredients: Water, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin

Toner...

For toner I like to opt for an exfoliating one. Regular reader are probably bored of hearing about this. But this is one the best exfoliating toners I've tried. It's really gentle but is still effective. This gently exfoliates to reveal fresher, more refined glowing skin. This really does give the skin a healthy glow with continued use and it's really helped my dehydration lines.

Key ingredients: Leaf Juice, Glycolic Acid, Watch Hazel, Glyerin

Serum..

Serum is am important step in the colder months because it adds an extra layer of hydration

This serum has a light watery texture that glides on the skin and absorbs instantly. It's an anti ageing serum that uses plant steam cells to target fine lines and wrinkles. I don't actually have any wrinkles yet but this definitely helped keep my skin looking and feeling plump.

Key Ingredients: Glycol, Fruit Extracts, Tricotanoin

Another serum that I've been reaching for is this affordable favourite. This also has a light water texture that is easy to apply and absorbs quickly. The main ingredient is hydroluric acid which can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Making it a magnet for any moisturisers put over the top. I've only been using this for couple a weeks, but it effects are instant! This really leaves my skin more hydrated and smoother. I like to use in the morning and evening for optimum results.

Key Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Caster Oil

Moisturiser...

Moisturiser is the key to hydrating and nourishing skin. Without it I end up looking and feeling like a shrivelled up Prune...

La Roche Posay Ultra Toleraine Fluid | £17.50 | POST

I can't live without this stuff. I go as far as to say this is my holy grail moisturiser! This moisturiser is aimed at those with sensitive skin, but is formulated to target dry / dehydrated skin. The cream itself is very light and absorbs into the skin almost instantly. Which I really like because I tend to find creams for dehydrated skin are really thick and don't sit well under makeup. But not this! This really keeps my dehydration at bay and doesn't cause me to break out! This is a brilliant all rounder.

Key Ingredients: Water, Shea Butter, Glyceryl, Glycerin

Oils...

Adding oils to my nightly skincare routine has really helped my skin. I have a few on rotation but at the moment I'm really loving this one. This is jammed packed with ingredients such as Blackcurrant seed oil, Kernel Seed oil to help fight the signs the ageing and protect the skin from environmental damage. After using this at night, in the morning my skin feels super soft, hydrated and more glowing.

Key Ingredients: Cherry Kernel oil, Blackcurrant Oil, Plump extracts

Mask & Treatments...

Theres nothing I love more than the instant effects of masks and overnight treatment.

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Sheet Mask | £19.99 (pack of 4) | POST

Sheet masks have gained a bit of a cult following. And for good reason. This one in particular is saturated in concentrated Hyduluronic acid which penetrates the skin for 24hr moisture. I like to leave this on for as long as possible and then massage in any left over residue. And the results are amazing! My skin is so much softer, more hydrated and has a healthy glow!

Key Ingredients: Water, Caster Oil, Glyceryl.

Origins Drink it up Overnight Facial | £24

This is a thick mask that can be left for 10 minutes for an instant shot of hydration or left on over night for even more hydration. I find using this overnight is best way to get the full effects. And in the morning my skin is so much plumper and softer. This is the perfect addition to any autumn / winter routine.

Key Ingredients: Rose Water, Flower oil, Kernel oil, Glycerin

The Body Shop Honey & Oat Face Mask | £10

I think this has been discontinued because I can't seem to find it online. Which I am not happy about. This was one of my Body Shop favourites! It contains Honey and Oats, the Honey nourishes the skin and acts as an antiseptic, while the Oats gently exfoliate the skin. After leaving this on for 10-15mins my skin is incredibly smooth! And feels deeply nourished! If you can find this in store, I highly recommend getting it!

Facial Mists...

Facial mists are another great way to add hydration and refresh the skin. They are perfect on the go when skin starts to feel a little dry.

Avene Thermal Spring Water | £10

This is a super charged water that can be used to treat a number of skin concerns. The minerals are proven to help dry, irritated skin and improve redness. This can be used during your skincare routine or over makeup throughout the day. I like to use over makeup when my foundation starts to feel dry to add some extra hydration. This can also be used all over the body, to treat itchyness or shaving rash. It's a great all round product.

Key Ingredients: Thermal Spring Water.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe and herbs | £11

Another facial mist that has instant lasting effects. It contains herbal extracts and rose water that revives my dehydrated skin. It can be used before or after makeup. I really like this after makeup; it helps my makeup to look fresher and stops it from drying out! Another great addition for anyone that has dehydrated skin.

Key Ingredients: Water, Leaf Extract, Fruit Extract.

So there you have some of my skincare stables to combat dehydration and dullness during the colder months.

Have you tried any of these? What are your thoughts?
