Dealing with Breakouts When you Have Dry / Dehydrated Skin

Having dry / dehydrated skin doesn't instantly mean you don't get blemishes or breakouts. Well in my experience it doesn't! But most spot treatments, or skincare for breakouts are aimed at oily skin. This normally means I do treat the spot but it leaves my skin so dry and then I have to try to combat that. And I just end up going round in circles. But I have found some gentle, non drying spot treatments and skincare that really help my breakouts. So today I thought I'd share them with you...

Cleansers...

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish | £14

When I am suffering from breakouts I want something light, not stripping but something that's not dying. So I reach for this offering from Liz Earle. This is a no fuss cleanser that removes makeup, dirt and grime with ease, without leaving my skin feeling dry or tight. This leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh without irritating my breakouts further. I can see why this is such a cult classic.

Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm | £16.50 (Full size)

Another cleanser that I really like when my skin is angry. This is a nice, light, melting cleanser that smells divine. It removes makeup and dirt build up well. And leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished. I will definitely be repurchasing the full size.

Moisturiser...

La Roche Posay Toleraline Ultra Fluid | £17.50 | POST

This is the only moisturiser I've found that treats my dehydrated skin and helps blemishes. The consistency is super light, but so nourishing. I have no problems with my skin feeling dry or tight throughout the day when I use this. But it also helps speed up the time it takes for blemishes to go away. It's just brilliant, I can't recommend it enough.

Masks...

Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask | £19.95

This is the ultimate face mask for dry / dehydrated skin that is prone to breakouts. It contains Manuka honey which has great antibacterial properties, it also draws out impurities and hydrates the skin at the same time. This really helps clear breakouts. I like to use it at night, leave it on for 15-20minutes and in the morning my blemishes are smaller and less red. After removing my skin is instantly so soft, smooth, looks clearer and more radiant. It's a brilliant mask.

Good Things Manuka Honey Radiance Mask | £5.99

Another Manuka Honey Mask that works wonders for breakouts is this cheap and cheerful offering. This also contains White Clay that is also an effective ingredient that draws out impurities. And Papaya extract to brighten the complexion. This is a great mask but I don't find it as hydrating as the Antipodes ones, but it's not drying - if that makes sense.

Oils...

Pai Rose Hip Oil | £22 | POST

I know it might sound strange to treat breakouts with an oil but I've found Rose Hip Oil to be very effective in clearing and treating breakouts. This also has super nourishing ingredients that also hydrate the skin. I've noticed that this has really helped fade any marks / scars that blemishes leave behind! I like to use two or three drops every night. I can't recommend this enough!

Dr Botanicals Super food facial oil | £33.31 | POST

This fast absorbing oil is the perfect hydrator when harsh blemish treatments have dried my skin out. It's jammed pack with skin loving ingredients and anti oxidants to help restore the skin and prevent further damage. I apply a few drops at night after my moisturisers and in the morning my skin is noticeably softer and more hydrated.

So that's the gentle, effective skincare I like to reach for when I have breakouts.
